Emergency Procedures
In the event of an emergency, dial 777, and inform the operator of the type of emergency from:
- Fire
- Fire Alarm
- External Emergency
- Aggression
- Armed Hold-up
- Hazardous Materials (Chemicals/Gas/Ethylene Oxide)
- Flooding
- Utility Failure
- Missing Patient
- Bomb Threat
- Suspicious Activity
- Unauthorised Visitor/Media
- Clinical Emergency
- Climatic Disaster (storm/wind/snow)
- Earthquake

Fire Alarm
If you see or suspect a fire:
Remove
- Anyone from danger, if it is safe to do so.
Alert
- Others to the danger.
- Activate the nearest RED Manual Call Point (fire alarm).
- Dial 777 and give specific information on the solution.
Confine
- Check smoke stop doors are closed.
- Close doors and windows.
Extinguish
- Only if it is safe to do so.
On the sounding of the fire alarm:
The Floor Warden (person in charge of the area at the time) takes control of Ward or Department.
On the alert sound (an electronic beeping):
- Go to the Remote Display Unit.
- Read the text instruction on the device that has activated and location.
- Investigate the area indicated for signs of smoke.
- If no fire/smoke is found return to Remote Display Unit and reset alarm.
- Dial 777 and inform operator with specific information.
- If fire/smoke is present activate the nearest RED manual call point (fire alarm).
- Dial 777 and inform operator with specific information.
On the evacuation sound (a rise and fall whoop):
- There is a voice message instructing you what action to take.
- Follow the instructions of the voice message to either “Evacuate the Zone’ or ‘Evacuate the Floor’ or ‘Evacuate the Building'.
