Trainee Interns are full-time final year students who must gain clinical experience to complete their qualifications. They are important members of the clinical team, with Honorary Status granted by the CDHB. Trainee Interns are responsible through Senior Clinical Staff to the Chief Executive of the CDHB.
Note: As Trainee Interns are yet to attain formal registration status, they can only assess and manage patients under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner. From a practical perspective this means that Trainee Interns cannot assess new patients (e.g., in ED, AGA, AMAU, or SAPU) without a registered practitioner having first seen and assumed responsibility for that patient. This initial assessment may be limited to a brief appraisal by the RMO, if the patient is clearly stable.
