There are two Acute Medical House Officers on duty from 0800 - 2300 hours. Each looks after their team’s acute patients admitted during that time. They also look after their own inpatients.
On Saturday morning, they also cover the post-acute ward round for the general medical team which was acute the day before.
The Acute Surgical House Officer is on duty for acute general surgery from 0800 to 1600 hours weekdays.
From 1600 to 2300 hours evenings and 0800 to 2300 hours on weekends and public holidays, the Acute Surgical House Officer is responsible for admitting all acute surgical patients and care of their own inpatients. On Saturday mornings, they also cover the post acute ward round for the general surgical team which was acute the day before.
This is an extra position on weekend days from 1000 – 1800. It is filled at certain times of the year when there is an increased workload (for example in the winter months).
The position is filled by house officers allocated to community runs and other current staff who volunteer for these extra duties.
The house officer filling this position reports to the Clinical Team Coordinator and shares the overall house officer workload with the other house officers on duty.

As of Monday 25 May 2015, house officer responsibility for Gastroenterology and Oncology in-patients will be taken over by Duty Med HO 2 on evenings and weekends. Responsibilities will be divided as follows:
As with all out-of-hours rosters, Duty Medical House Officers contribute to the clinical after-hours team. The Clinical Team Coordinator organises the medical activities of each participant in the clinical after-hours team. To ensure patients receive the appropriate level of clinical care, Duty Medical House Officers 1 and 2 might, at times, be required to provide medical care in areas outside those listed above.
There are two Medical House Officers on duty each night. Generally:
House Officers relate any concerns to the medical registrar on duty. At times, duties need to be shared between the two house officers, depending on their respective workloads. If you change duties, please let the operators know.
The Orthopaedic House Officer is on duty from 1600 to 2300 hours evenings and 0800 to 2300 hours on weekends and public holidays. They are responsible for admitting all acute orthopaedic patients and for orthopaedic inpatients.
